Service Charter

Introduction

The Musei in Comune -"Rome Museum System"- is part of the Municipality of Rome. It brings together several important museums and collections of great historical and artistic significance (a full list is provided in Annex 1). Each museum in the System represents a focus for specific study, conservation and research. Together, they share a common interest in their collective growth and development.
The System is responsible for the sound management of all the human, technological and financial resources. The Systems's main commitments are: to providing high-quality cultural and artistic events and services to the public, to offering an inviting welcome to all users, to protecting the artistic heritage found in the museums and collections, to offering world-class educational services and finally, to providing high-quality publishing and merchandising services.
The Managing Company - Zètema Progetto Cultura - is responsible for the overall management and improvement of all the museums included in the Musei in Comune, and is in charge of organising events, exhibitions, conventions, concerts and educational activities, such as visits and workshops (Annex 2).

What is the Service Charter?

For the sake of the Charter, a museum is defined as a "non-profit making, permanent institution in the service of society and of its development, and open to the public, which acquires, conserves, researches, communicates and exhibits, for purposes of study, education and enjoyment, material evidence of people and their environment". This definition is taken from the Statutes of the International Council
of Museums (ICOM). It clearly places society and its members at the centre of a museum's functions and responsibilities.
The Service Charter identifies the areas in which the Musei in Comune operates, defines the responsibilities of the Managing Company, describes the rights of users and identifies key quality control indicators.
The Charter publicises and describes the services offered by the Musei in Comune, and provides a transparent statement of the relationship between the System and its users. The Musei in Comune will monitor and identify the evolving needs of its users in order to ensure effective and timely responses and modifications to both this Charter and the services it provides.
